Ah...Insomnia...My Old Friend

Insomnia -

Insomnia: The perception or complaint of inadequate or poor-quality sleep because of one or more of the following: difficulty falling asleep; waking up frequently during the night with difficulty returning to sleep; waking up too early in the morning; or unrefreshing sleep. Insomnia is not defined by the number of hours of sleep a person gets or how long it takes to fall asleep. Individuals vary normally in their need for, and their satisfaction with, sleep. Insomnia may cause problems during the day, such as tiredness, a lack of energy, difficulty concentrating, and irritability.

Types of Insomnia: Insomnia can be classified as transient (short term), intermittent (on and off), and chronic (constant). Insomnia lasting from a single night to a few weeks is referred to as transient. If episodes of transient insomnia occur from time to time, the insomnia is said to be intermittent. Insomnia is considered to be chronic if it occurs on most nights and lasts a month or more.

I'm not sure where I fall into that definition. I think I best fit in the intermittent insomnia description. It's something I've battled for about 4 years now....and I've tried all the natural cures. Sorry, I'm a drug girl. Ambien in my friend. I guard my hard to come by prescription of Ambien. My doctor gives me a 30 day supply, which I manage to make last 3 months. It's also my security blanket. Just knowing it's there, give me comfort. If I have a sleepless night or two, I KNOW I can take one little pill and have a restful and refreshing nights sleep. But you need to 8 hours for sleep and once it's 11:00 or later, it's too late. I've managed to make some interesting forum posts if I'm not in bed when it kicks in...much to the delight of my friends. One never knows what one will say - or even if it can be deciphered, after a little ambien.

Insomnia is good for reading blogs. I don't often get time that is basically "free time" so I catch up on blog reading when I'm awake at odd hours. Tonight, I actually decided to do a little blogging of my own.

Sweet Dreams....maybe tomorrow.

I am so sorry that you have to deal with something like that..EEEKKK...I would not be able to function without a full 8 hours of sleep. But glad that you have some meds that help you!
