I Love the Sound of Rain.....

It's 2 am on Saturday morning. My old friend insomnia has decided to visit and on Friday night I don't find it disturbing nor am I overwhelmed with thoughts of possible slept deprivation at work the following day. If necessary, I can take a nap tomorrow. So I got up and began playing with a layout I was working on earlier.

I'm having a cup of Sleepy Time Tea, listening to the calming sounds of a gentle rain falling. I find that sound so very relaxing.

Today, our company announced furloughs for all "non-revenue producing" employees. That would be me. I'm support staff so I get to take 2 weeks off without pay. However, one week will be in Q2 and the other week in the last 6 months of the year. And we get to pick the week. I think in lieu of a permanent pay cut or layoffs, this is far less devastating for all the employees. I'm strangely not upset or overly concerned. We've been living quite frugally for a year and saving quite a bit, so I think we can weather this just fine. However, I will find more stuff to sell on Craig's List or Ebay - and bank that additional cash as well.

My overall view - I'm blessed to still have a job in today's economy.

We've been facing budjet cuts as well as a state, and furloughs are an option many agencies are going with. And I agree, it's so much better than layoffs and pay cuts... I keep telling my staff it's a way to make a small sacrfice and save a coworkers job.

Hopefully there won't be too many of those. Good for you for being prepared with savings, so many people aren't.

I know that you aren't devestated about, but I am sorry that it happened. I am glad that you have some money stashed away and that they were thoughtful enough to give notice. I hope you are able to plan to do something fun and enjoyable on your time off!
